A recent study compiled by researchers at the University of California, Davis, suggests that women are still severely underrepresented in leading roles at major California companies. The study compiled lists of high-ranking employees from Californiaai??i??s 400 largest companies, and found that women were in less than 10% of all executive roles, despite the fact that fifty percent of the population is female. It stands to reason that there should be more female directors at large companies than there currently are, and the study is an attempt to discover why women are still absent from the board room.
The UC Davis Study of California Women Business Leaders is an annual report compiled by UC Davisai??i?? The survey singled out the software industry, one of the biggest employers in California and one of the largest sectors in the United States, as the industry with the least amount of females in top-level positions in general, alongside the semiconductor industry.
The surveyai??i??s author, Amanda Kimball, writes that in the eight years she has conducted the annual survey, there have been no significant changes in the results, with little growth in the role of women at these companies.
Despite the overwhelmingly negative results of study, Kimball released statistics that showcased companies at which the gender balance among top-level executives and directors was relatively equal.
